Mrs. Keller
My challenge for each of you this year is…
To read voraciously for pleasure, because there are so many great books!
&
To write or draw everything you think or feel or believe, because your thinking matters.
My name is Patricia Anne Keller and I am so excited to be your 6th grade Language Arts & Social Studies teacher. I just celebrated my 44th birthday on August 31st. I was born in East Lansing, Michigan and grew up in Grand Ledge, Michigan. I received my teaching degree from Central Michigan University and attended Grand Valley State University for my post-graduate studies. I married Mr. Keller 18 years ago and we have two sons: Nick who is a junior at SLHS and Ben who is a freshman at SLHS. They keep us very busy attending their sporting events. In my free time, I enjoy gardening, traveling, biking, water skiing, and spending summer weekends at our family cottage. This summer we enjoyed a restful week on Mackinaw Island, a peaceful week in North Carolina, and traveling to see family in Virginia.
I attended the August Writing Institute this summer at Columbia University in New York City. I learned so many new and exciting ways to teach writing from one of education’s leading children’s writing experts, Lucy Calkins. I feel rejuvenated and ready to kick off an exciting year of learning.
Mrs. Kipling
My full name is Sarah Elizabeth Kipling, however I go by Betsy Kipling. I grew up in the small town of Allendale, Michigan and I have four younger brothers.
I received my teaching degree and my Masters in Educational Leadership from Grand Valley State University. I majored in science with an emphasis in geology. Through the study of geology I found I thoroughly enjoyed hiking. I have hiked through many countries in Europe, the Rocky Mountains as well as the great volcanoes of the Hawaiian Islands. I also enjoy, traveling, photography, running and spending time with my family.
My husband Eric Kipling also works for the Spring Lake school district as a 7th and 8th grade teacher in the middle school. This coming May our beautiful daughter, Annie, turned four and our energetic son, Maddux, is 2 1/2 years old. Our summer was filled with creating wonderful memories with Annie and Maddux and traveling to Atlantic Beach, North Carolina, hosting friends from Sweden, and enjoying the beaches of West Michigan.
